Griffin's Modern Motel

A picture says a thousand words, doesn't it?

Mt.Vernon, KY is where you'll find this sad old weatherbeaten husk of what was probably not exactly the greatest pinnacle of commercial lodging even in its heyday. Perhaps by "modern" they meant they had telephones. Or hot water. The rooms are tiny and primitive by any era's standards, and there are only a handful of them. The front door to the office swings open in the breeze, revealing debris and plaster everywhere. Someone needs to rescue this place before whoever owns it decides to bulldoze it for a tanning bed or a storage unit place. Look deep in your pockets and try to get your entrepreneurial function functioning, friend. More pics are here and here.

On a similar note, Georgetown, KY is home to this Modern Upholstery sign.
